I would love to hear the answers to this question. I try for mornings and weekends or nights and weekends, since I work a regular job during the day. I often feel I am not writing enough. Anyone else have this problem? How do you do it?

I'm not confident in my work at all. I feel like I suck, I'm horrible and nothing I do is ever good enough. This has affected my ability to complete scripts and sometimes even blog posts because I agonize over everything. People used to tell me my scripts are trash and ever since I became obsessed with being perfect and I don't know what to do anymore

Expand commentZorrawa Jefferson Baby Steps are a must! Take the time to learn from your mistakes. In 2014, I submitted my first screenplay to my fellow writers at the Virginia Screenwriters Forum and was ridiculed for not using the proper industry font. Yeah, that stung, but I learned well. Today, I'm the proud owner of Wins and Finalists stats awarded from national / international script competitions. Trust me, you WILL evolve as a writer. Focus, strive to learn, find your voice, and everything will eventually fall in to place. Welcome to the journey. Toss on the Nikes and starting runnng! : )
I hate everything I do and people keep buying it anyway. Give yourself the same courtesy and room you give others.
Exchange scripts and talk about them. You will see everyone has doubts. Keep running or you will get out of shape.
Hi Zorrawa,
It sounds to me like you have the makings of a good writer. From what I've learned they're all critical of their own work. I have the same doubts, so know that you're not alone, and keep writing.

Confidence comes when you know that you've done your best at trying improving your craft. That you have practiced and been critiqued and survived. If you can write something that evokes emotion in others, then you have succeeded as a writer.

I do a lot of travel and lifestyle photography and am not keen on being the focal point of a project, so I think I've developed a way to talk about travel and my photography without being on camera so much. I enjoy writing the scripts and doing the narration - and I think the most recent video I did will give me a push in the right direction.
I know that YouTubes are often quick and dirty how-to videos, but I thought maybe YouTube would be a good place to experiment for awhile, and promote myself a little. I'd like to create videos that are not so much how-to, not so much selling my experience in a place, but rather, going a little deeper into my travels.
Anyway, this is my latest video that I posted last week. From a Thanksgiving trip to Yosemite.
I have limited facilities, so all of the videos I'm posting are created with an iPhone X and iMovie on the iPhone. I'm getting a lot of positive feedback from friends, but we all get that, don't we, and would like to hear from people who don't know me - particularly about scripting and voiceover. Feel free to comment here or comment over on YouTube.
Thanks!
I'm thinking so, Mark. Also a good place to experiment.
I'm getting a lot of positive comments on my voice with the narration. I've often thought about doing voiceover, but have struggled with my lack of perfection. But people seem to like it.

I'm based right now in Berkeley, California.
I'm a still photographer, artist, and writer (creative non-fiction and other things, my own narration scripts for youtubes, stuff like that). I was working on a script when I introduced myself the last time, but I've put it on the back burner.
I also love doing background and extra work. Would I like to have some lines? Maybe - but I'm not driven that way. I would love to find an ensemble to work with. I love being on sets, both small and large. Covid sort of put a squash on that work, but I'm hoping more projects come to Northern California in the coming year.
My interests are sci-fi (not the blow'em up, aliens are evil kind of sci-fi, but lighter stuff or headier stuff: Star Treks, Stargate and Brad Wright projects, Travelers, Firefly, Eureka, the shorts on the DUST channel, etc.) and ensemble drama or witty sharp comedy.
Looking to connect with a tribe in the Bay Area, or people who are keen on working remotely.
Thank you!
Hi Kimberly! What projects are you working on next?
I have no projects at the moment - other than fiddling around with my youtube channel. I'm looking for projects I might collaborate on ... whether that is reading scripts for people or doing background work ...
Amazing! There are definitely a lot of people looking for script reads on here ALSO, if you're in the Writers' Room, I would recommend joining me in the Coverage Report, it's a ton of fun

Newly joined Stage 32, as of, like, right now.
I've been a lifelong visual artist and photographer, and recently started working as a background extra on local-to-me film projects. Also working on my first series pilot script - or - it might end up being a film, not sure yet. We'll see how that goes.
Welcome!! Best of luck on your pilot (or feature). If you need any feedback or notes, please let me know!
Thank you!
Thanks Aray!

You just have to carve out the time. I see this question a lot on forums and I always think “you could be writing now”.
I use writerduet on my iPad and phone so every moment I can write I can write.

It's tough to get writing done when life "gets in the way", but if you find a project you're passionate about, it makes it much easier to say "I'd rather write than watch TV" or "I can write during my lunch break"

I write in the mornings before my day job.
My day job also has some down time where I can read and even jot notes.
And don't forget lunch breaks! Back in 2016 I literally wrote an entire horror script writing only on my lunch breaks at work.

Designate a half hour of your day to write - same time every day. It can be while you are having your morning coffee. Or make a rule that you can't have dinner or evening snacks until you've written for at least a half-hour. Food is a really good motivator.

Some of my most creative moments and breakthroughs are when I'm doing something else and whip out my phone to note the thoughts down. Or I'm lying in bed half asleep and able to just day dream.
Typing is just a case of blocking it around other things I need to do.
I've managed to adjust my working life so I have a lot of time and flexibility. That's taken a lot of sacrifices and meant giving up a lot of material things to live a lean life. That's the life on an artist though.
