Female Driven Screenplay Contest -- who submitted?

Let us know if you submitted and tell us more about your scripts!

Pauline Hutchinson

I submitted!!! I am nervous, excited and hopeful. In my script a seemingly destitute woman appears in New York City claiming to be the one and only Billie Holiday. She meets a semi retired detective who is determined to solve the mystery and figure out who she really is. They fall in love and she is living every musicians dream. After some time she regains her memory but she hides it, in order to continue to have her fantasy life. Unfortunately she is betrayed and loses everything. But she ultimately triumphs because while she was lost, she learned of her inner strength and determination.

Sheala Morrison

I submitted a comedy thriller feature! The Comeback Kid is the story of how scrappy waitress Danny McKinnon's life devolves into violent chaos when she runs into a down and out Ben Affleck late night at a casino on Fremont Street in Las Vegas and he decides to join her underground wrestling club, much to the dismay of his estranged and rapidly unraveling best friend Matt Damon. Will she be able to help Ben rediscover his passion for storytelling or will Matt's jealousy be the end of her? This story has been described as wildly funny, unique, and anarchistic and I'm so excited to share it via this amazing competition!

Reggie Cook

I submitted my passion project, "LAS SOLDADERAS " It is a powerful narrative that blends the high-octane action of "Set It Off" with the raw emotion and social relevance of "Sicario." Set against the backdrop of Juarez, a city plagued by violence and gender inequality, our film delves into the harrowing realities of femicide through the eyes of strong, resilient female protagonists who defy the status quo and fight for justice in a lawless society.

FEMICIDE (Fem·i·cide) Noun

the murder of a woman or girl, in particular by a man because she is female.

LOGLINE: In the violent city of Juarez, Mexico, four women, driven by personal loss and rampant femicide, turn vigilantes, taking on the local cartel and corrupt officials, leading to a high-stakes chase across the border.

Francisco Castro

Yup, submitted!!!

Farook Qais

hey people!

I submitted "Hi, Libido." link to the logline is below.

I am proud of this script because it's one of my favourite stories in my catalogue. A reflection of how much the physical compatability in a relationship really matters.

Good luck everybody!

Alene Latimer

I submitted my comedy pilot, about a right-leaning, tall drink of water Sheriff in her serial-killer-filled small southwestern town, hot on the trail of yet ANOTHER serial killer, but also dealing with too many boyfriends, court-ordered therapy (which, according to her, is for left wingers), a needy son who won't stop calling and of course the FBI, government lackeys who want in on her case to ruin it and not let her kill the serial killer (like she loves to do).

Mark Meinhardt

I submitted two scripts:

Poker Queens: Waitress Nicki dreams of becoming the first woman to win the World Series of Poker. Her sister Ashley, a single parent, dreams of creating a secure future for her son. When Nicki’s bar is put up for sale, she hatches a plan to buy it for her sister and make both their dreams come true.

It's set in Minnesota. It's an R-Rated Adult Comedy.

Emma's Christmas Choice: College student Emma, mourning her father's death and resenting Christmas, is transported to an alternate reality by Santa, where her father is alive, but her sister is dying. Emma is faced with the choice of saving her ailing sister or returning to a world without her father.

I love Christmas movies and It's a Wonderful Life is one of my favorites. I wondered, "What if George Baily decided to stay and fix Pottersville?".In this case it's Emma and her sister is ill because Emma doesn't exist in the new reality and wasn't there to give her a life-saving marrow transplant.

Bill Brock

I submitted my child abduction thriller, "WHERE'S GRACE?," which is currently nominated in the 2024 Beverly Hills International Film Festival (May 1-5). The "short script" version of this feature screenplay was a "Second Rounder" at the 2021 Austin Film Festival.

Logline: As a bitter child custody battle rages on, a mother focuses on her alcoholism, a father focuses on his heavy workload, and a serial killer focuses on their six-year-old daughter... which begs the question-- Where's Grace?

So? What comes to mind when YOU envision a serial killer? For me, it's a stunningly attractive 28-year- old female banking executive named Brinn Masters, who just so happens to have a certain weakness for targeting little girls. Hopefully, Grace's mother, Debra, can stay sober enough to save her daughter from certain death.

Candace Egan

I submitted DESERT BELLES about a stubborn veteran off-road racer who is determined to preserve her father’s legacy by competing in a grueling eight-day, 4-wheel drive desert auto rally. When her daughter drops her for another team, she’s forced to partner with a disgraced media personality and they battle deadly conditions, sabotage, and a shady former racing partner

Ingrid Wren

I submitted my sci-fi action/adventure story STAR DANCER where dance, in all its forms, is the currency of the universe.

Logline: When the Intergalactic Mafia kidnaps her sister, a bionic starship pilot overcomes her injuries when she accepts help, from a specially bred assistance panther, and a ballroom dancing pirate, to rescue her before an Intergalactic Dance Championship finishes.

My mission is to bring more fun into people's lives, and I believe great music and dance can lift your spirits in a way other forms of storytelling can’t. It can melt away your cares and take you to a whole new world for a couple of hours.

STAR DANCER is a quirky, fun filled sci-fi romp through a modern tech/steampunk universe populated by humanoids and aliens, starships and pylon racers, dancers and martial artists. Dance, in all its forms, permeates the galaxy, and the artistry of ballroom with its emotion, sequins, and light, is the pinnacle.

Dayna Von Thaer

I submitted two projects: Blind World and Bloom Wildly. They are vastly different projects - one is an apocalyptic drama and the other is loosely based on my grandmother's life. I'm excited to set them off into the wild and see what happens next!

Jason Drake

I submitted a script that is a blend of horror and drama inspired by true events. Think of it as “The Conjuring” meets “Inception”. THE SPIRIT WORLD is about a young woman who, after a harrowing near-death experience, must confront her hidden past to save her family from a sinister force that jeopardizes our reality.

George Putnam

I submitted a 1940's noir with a female lead, a very strong female lead. Indeed, she's in literally every scene (a la Nicholson in Chinatown, to which my script has been compared by virtually every industry reader who's reviewed it). She owns the entire story. It's called Devil Winds, which the Santa Anas were called by old timers in L.A. The winds drove impulses in a woman not to heed her friend's warnings, her friend being the protagonist, and cost the woman her life. The woman's death is what drives the protagonist to offer herself up as a suspect to the D.A. who's investigating a county-wide scandal involving the liquor industry so that she can learn who killed her friend. It has mystery and suspense. Stage 32 gave a "consider" for the script and for me, the writer.

Wendy Jones

My story is about a lonely young woman who witnesses a good deed, but is persuaded to claim it as her own to save another girl getting into to trouble. The outpouring of love and temptation that follows, however, rapidly undermines her desire to help that girl and as one life improves, it seems it's at the expense of the other.

Good luck, everyone!

Paul Huenemann

SEA TERROR- This Atlantis-esque tale pulls readers down into the depths of the mysterious world of the deep sea. Carried by the confidence and safety of land, Salvager Sarah Jourdain, accompanied by her pilot Jack Yates, goes on a mission down into the depths. The fear and tension created by surviving in the deep sea is palpable. Every moment is literally a life-or-death scenario. Caught in this seemingly endless battle, the true character and motivations behind each of the leads comes to light. Sarah is motivated by the idea of saving her father rather than gaining troves of treasure. Jack is chased by memories of committing a terrible act under the guidance of an immoral captain, rather than his apparent “love for the sea.” Through direct and indirect references to Greek mythology, another depth is added to the story. Jack and Sarah are like two demigods facing forces that are far beyond their control.

Debi Yazbeck

I submitted EDDY JEAN inspired by true events. Logline: A young interning therapist in Austin Texas, counselor to a homeless woman charged with murder and incarcerated by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, must free herself from the manipulative control the woman has over her.

Todd Garrison

I submitted my feature script, The Restless Best. It's a drama inspired by the life of Geraldine "Jerrie" Cobb, our nation's first female astronaut-in-training. Now, you might think of Sally Ride, but you'd be wrong! It was actually in 1960, way before Sally Ride, way before the Space Shuttle, and way before Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin set foot on the moon! In fact, she was setting world records as a female aviator before NASA even existed! You've probably never heard of her! It's time her story is vividly and visually told on screens everywhere... big and small! That's why I wrote it! If you were inspired by the film Hidden Figures, you'll love this story!

Linda Collison

Life at 120 is a female written, female driven narrative set at a skydiving dropzone in 1979, based on real life events. A skydiver and her two friends meet up for their former teammate's funeral and relive what went wrong on that fateful jump. Tagline: Life goes by fast -- especially at 120 mph!

Richard Essilfie-Bondzie

I submitted the pilot of The Girl Who Dreamt Of An Immortal Heart. It is set about 300 years in the future and it is about the coming of age tale of Evol, a sixteen year old girl. Not only does she have to deal with changes that are rapidly happening to her personal life and a constantly evolving futuristic world...she is also unknowingly caught up in subterfuge. lethal intrigue and the machinations of a sinister organization whose ultimate goal is power, control of an unsuspecting public and world dominance.

Tia Matza

My Baby-Cakes: Religion clashes with a mother's love in Texas. When a Jesus-loving single mother finds out her teen daughter is pregnant, she must wrestle with her faith while running from the law to save her daughter's life.

I submitted one of my comedic thrillers "The Method" about a struggling actress in Hollywood who is about to give up and head back home when she gets handed the opportunity to become the assistant to the industry's leading method actor whose eccentric lifestyle and acting method takes them down the path of stepping into the mind of a serial killer. It both celebrates and pokes fun at the idea of Hollywood culture and the movie making industry.

Michael Fitzer

My submission was born from a chance meeting with a music therapist. While discussing the most difficult parts of her job she mentioned the playing of a "death song" for patients who are in the final stage of life. I paired the idea of performing music for a dying person with the struggles of an aging rock musician searching for relevance. The result is "Music Therapy."

Tucker Teague

I submitted my drama, PACIFIC VALLEY. Logline: "Juliana and her fellow student film crew face mounting obstacles as their documentary project is caught up in a local labor strike and threatens to expose corruption that may rock the city of Pacific Valley for years to come." It's a smallish-budget ensemble piece set in a fictional west coast city (think Berkeley, CA or Eugene, OR) in 1974. Of course, I would love someone to option/buy it, but I've also been thinking of producing/directing it myself.

Adam Rocke

My submission, CAGE GIRLS, was inspired by my time covering mixed martial arts for "Fight! Magazine."

Adam Rocke

Very few pro fighters make any real money, and female pro fighters make far less.

Beth Black

I submitted a family feature.

Adam Rocke

The road to stardom and financial freedom is long, winding, and a scant few ever reach their "destination."

So creating a feature film set in the world of women's MMA seemed like a perfect world.

Logline: A washed-up women's MMA world champion gets a shot at redemption to fight her former training partner and protége, now a rising star in professional MMA.

Daniel Falcone

Hello and cheers from Maine! I submitted a black comedy, "Dear Prudence." Saddled with debt and forced to return home to Maine, fifty-two-year-old failed screenwriter Prudence Grimwood (a.k.a. Grim) schemes to escape her financial woes, but her desperate attempts only throw her life into a tailspin. Prudence had her life strictly planned out: go to an expensive film school, write a script about her great grandmother who was a granite baron in Maine, win the Oscar for best screenplay, and marry Benedict Cumberbatch...in that order. Havoc and ruin followed. However, Prudence dug in and hung on. This story serves as a poignant reminder that true success lies not in the destination, but in the growth, wisdom, and fulfillment gained through the twists and turns of life's unpredictable path. Hope to see it on the screen one day! So happy to be here and connected with all of you talented writers :)

Roy Stewart

I submitted one of my most recent action thriller screenplays entitled "Lumina."

Synopsis: LOIS SHEEHY, 30, is a lonely and timid Naturopath student who makes her own scented candles and soap. She also works part time as a Dancer at a popular Club in NYC.

One day she witnesses a hit within the club and flees the scene only to be struck down by lightning, outside, leaving her in a coma.

She awakens within a dark cavernous world where she sees others killed at the club including her best friend. Lois is not dead in the underworld nor is she truly alive in the surface world. She’s in between. A SHAFT OF VIOLET LIGHT shoots down from the ceiling before Lois.

Three WOMEN, in their 20s, appearing as Greek Goddesses from time immemorial, stand within the shaft. Lois is awestruck. The women, dressed head to toe in white linen, with flowers in their hair, step out of the shaft, each grasping regal scepters. And radiate a bright white luminance like angels.

They are the MOIRAI SISTERS. Also known as the Greek Fates. They inform Lois as to where she is, why she’s there and how she can escape.

Lois ascends an inner mountain stairwell, overcomes obstacles, and arrives at its summit where she commands the Sky God to crown her. And he does so by striking her again with a lighting bolt.

Only this time, Lois resurrects in a hospital bed as LUMINA, ready to initiate her guided mission to track down, apprehend and terminate the ultimate incarnated Fallen Angel responsible for all of Earth’s evils. For humanity’s sake, our beautiful Super Heroine joins forces with two top Detectives, from NYC and Japan, to hunt down and capture the most wanted human trafficking Terrorist in the world.

Michael Elliott

I entered my romantic drama, "I'll Never Find Another You", LOGLINE: Realizing the "true love of her life" has been in and out of her life over six decades, a Woman, 74, suffering from cancer invites him back into her life for one final try at that love, "The Notebook" meets "Past Lives".

Sandra Isabel Correia

Samantha Shaber I loved your story :)) Welcome to Stage 32 amazing community:))

Debra Pralle

It's Cheers in a sex club...where everyone knows way more than just your name.

LOGLINE: After inheriting her parent's secret swinger's club, a sexually repressed single mom must manage a team of eccentric employees and club members as she redefines what is means to be a "good mom" and rediscovers her own carnal desires.

Tia Matza

How many writers have submitted @stage32?

Marilyn Birchfield

Hi! I submitted my screenplay PLEASE DO NOT FORGET ME , a true story of the love triangle between Venezuelan novelist Teresa de la Parra, Cuban writer, Lydia Cabrera, and Ecuadorian diplomat, Gonzalo Zaldumbide, in the early 1930s in Paris and Europe.A strong element of the story is the theme of women and the choices they are forced to make between being a wife and being an artist. Teresa is given an inheritance that leaves her free to pursue her writing, as long as she promises to never marry. This creates complications in her life between her love of writing and her love of other people. At the height of their involvement, Teresa has an alarming confrontation with tuberculosis, a highly contagious disease that separated her from her writing and her life in Paris. Her refusal to marry Gonzalo sends him back to Ecuador and Lydia follows her to the Sanatorium in Switzerland and stays with her until the end.

This is a compelling story of the love affair between two women and a man, their friendship and personal triumph over the choices they made.

Geoff Hall

Pat Alexander my female-driven screenplay which would fit this criterion is optioned, so I can’t submit it, but I’m not submitting to anymore competitions anyway.

Mike Lynch

All these submissions -- the more that are entered, the less likely a particular script will be chosen. Contest odds are not good. Better to send directly to a producer or production company.

Angela Romeo

I did not submit - I am still trying to decide what contests to explore - There comes a point when wading through contests becomes another job.

Sam Rivera

Hi. I submitted a biopic historical drama script about the life and loves of female artist, Georgia O’Keeffe. I love this script because she is my favorite painter and her life is fascinating, watching her thrive in a man’s world and make her own way as her own person.

I also have just published a short story called TAXI DANCER, which is a female driven story about a dance club hostess who is stalked by a serial killer then abducted and held hostage and tortured. But she is resilient, courageous and smart so she manages to turn the tables on this killer and she escapes, then brings him to justice. I love it when a strong female overcomes insurmountable odds. This is my new passion project and I’m excited to start working on the screenplay adaptation. I have a seven page treatment now I just need to sit down and hammer it out. Maybe I’ll be finished in time for next year’s female driven contest!

Good luck to everyone!! It’s so great to hear about all of these fascinating stories!!

Mario Leone

Well, I have a screenplay that has a female lead. I don’t know. I’ll think about it.

Daniel Goudreau

I submitted my script THUNDER AND LIGHTNING which is about what happens when I drop two Andover (MA) girls into 1989 Los Angeles. Not only do sparks and laughs erupt but primal elemental forces are unleashed when the girls square off against L.A.'s top fashion Diva and studio Exec. A fish out of water epic set against the music, films and products that made us. L.A. never had a chance.

Dana Bopp

I've submitted a fun murder mystery, based in Devon, England - called The Lily Spa Mystery.

The lead detective is a woman, who was fast tracked into her position from previously being in a corporate job. Even though she's one of the best, she struggles in the alpha male police force. As does the apprentice she's been tasked to train. He's the charming local boy who resolves things with a gentle approach. He also got to the scene of the murder first and lost more evidence than he found. Now they have to solve the murder!

Cassandra Slough

I’m finally able to comment! Had some troubles with my account but it’s all cleared away and working!

I submitted my screenplay THE DEEP DARK. This screenplay is certainly a little piece of me and a dark story (haha, no pun intended) at that. This film was an exploration of my own experiences and trauma left untouched that can be felt through my eyes. It explores lost time, fighting depression/traumatic thoughts and feelings, and giving into trauma and depression. Selena’s character dives into how scary, confusing, and frustrating, yet addicting and enticing giving into depression and trauma can be. And how it can truly turn you into a creature of the night.

Daniel Goudreau

Cassandra Slough Kudos to you for being so brave and to get all of that not only onto paper but in a compelling narrative that can even educate instead of just entertain. I'm sure your piece is in good hands.

Rachel Gassi

Hey guys, I submitted my pilot, Club Paradise, based on my time working in a strip club. Set in the 90s it follows an ex-exotic dancer and grieving mother as she struggles to run the city's hottest strip club, with the expectation of owning it. But when the owner's inexperienced nephew takes possession, she must fight to maintain her reign and protect her staff while battling external forces and inner demons.

My hopes are for it to be a cinematic, rock n roll love letter to women, mothers, friendship and the 90s.

Paul Rivers

I submitted my feature STETSON tagline: it 's not just my hat it's the code I live by.

Its a neo-Western drama with tears.

Bill Albert

I submitted my pilot for In the Shadows of November.

Magdalena Ruiz

I submitted!!!!

My story is about a grungy preteen named Aiyana!!! She hasn’t started her period like all the other girls in her class and realizes she's pregnant!!! She decides she doesn't want it and tries to find a way to terminate the pregnancy in secret with the help of her old childhood buddies! They haven't hung out together in years but Aiyanna, Ovia, Hope, and Jinx start off from where they last ended to help their friend in need! Jinx works up this idea of sneaking into an abortion clinic. All they have to do is blend in and not Jinx it! This event welcomes the audience to American teenage daughter hell and it will be a menstruating, pimple bumpy, hormonal raging, fun time. It's a provocative Babysitters Club without all the babysitting. :D
