Jump Scares in the "Insidious" Movies

If you're writing a Horror spec script with jump scares, check out the “Insidious” movies. They do a great job of using jump scares.

They use the “focus over here so you can get scared by something that's over there” technique.

The movies also use the “stare at something too long” technique where you...

Maurice Vaughan Look at 54-59, no dialogue. I remember in the film, it was like five minutes of Norman cleaning up the shower scene and disposing the car in the swamp. Such a great movie!...

One-sheets correctly defined

It may be important to note that a ONE SHEET is not a one-page synopsis. A one-sheet is a marketing tool to get the series/movie sold. It is NOT a synopsis and it never has the logline!  One sheet can be the words on the back of DVD movie cases. or used in PR to impact audiences to see the film/seri...

Has anyone else seen this film. It was released last year and mostly made during the pandemic. What did you think of it?

The film has a very strong theme, the object of desire drives the whole film. It's a very good lesson in screenwriting to establish this very clearly and early in the story. Everyt...

24 hours is nuts. But 2-4 weeks is doable. Just make sure you start with an outline. If you have your beats in order and have already have a clear picture of what needs to happen, I'm absolutely confident saying that a script can be written in 3 days.

Writer’s block

Hi everyone! Looking for advice on tackling writer’s block and staying motivated on a daily basis. Thanks!

Nikolas John

If you don't want to work on one piece of writing, work on one that is strictly for fun: Write a thoughtful email to your Grandma. Make a list of former lovers. Copy out your favorite song lyrics. Sometimes it's better to outflank the writing before it can mess with your head

Marcel Nault Jr.

Travis Seppala That's a great way of looking at it too. It might just come off as an excuse to avoid writing your story or whatever else you have going on.
