I recently completed my first screenplay and look forward to rubbing some virtual shoulders and hearing about your progress in the industry. I feel like for most of us, this is like mountain climbing. From the ground up, it's scary. Unrealistic. Crazy even. But with the right support, perseverance and belief, I know the ascent will be worth it. Even if and when we lose our grip and fall!
I've recently bit the bullet and submitted to a couple of competitions to gauge the waters and get some feedback. I look forward to sharing my work and reading/seeing yours as we go.
Here's to climbing and falling together.
Love this!! Best of luck to you!!
You too, Jordan!
Hey Shaz. How have the last 7 months been? Still climbing? Here if I can be of any support. I have plenty of metaphorical crampons, carabiners, ropes and harnesses to help you avoid those script rock-falls and story crevasses!
A new story in a series is coming soon. https://www.deadivi.com
Very, very interesting. I will follow this!
if you wish tips on Greek myths, i'd love to help

I see the crazy town for what it is, odds worse then any Vegas casino game, even if they ask for it or put it under consideration.
I also know that even if more than a few, in fact several, show interest it still doesn't mean a thing. It just means, maybe. But where I'm at with the maybe, I know others haven't even gotten that far and thus I'm grateful even though it's just a maybe.
It's the maybe that keeps me at it all, keeps me thinking the impossible could just happen. No one knows the future but when a fish nibbles you wait for it to bite or you throw your line in with new bait. I wonder if I'll ever run out of bait. Guess I'll have to keep at it and see if I get passed maybe.
If this is your dream and this is who you are, you will never run out of bait, because YOU are the bait. The oceans are vast, fish are innumerable, and fish have to eat to survive. Keep fishing.
Congrats, WL! You’ve kept at it and your hard work has paid off. I agree with CJ, those are all wins! Keep forging ahead and enjoy it all!
Thanks again everyone! It's so good to see so many positive comments, once again. It really feels that we are all turning a corner here and I for one am super glad to see it. Cheers to all of us who take a shot at the impossible that is only possible if you take a shot at it.

Let me say that I'm not a writer but a director who likes to write sometimes, but usually I write the first draft and then someone with more experience does the writing.
But I've had a couple of ideas that I've been wanting to write and I just could not get in the right mood.
Lately I've found a new way of getting the work done.
I usually create an outline to a degree and then try and start to write but I always get stuck at something and then I stall there.
But this time I did something different. I wrote all the scene names and under the scenes I wrote a short description of what I wanted to happen and I did that right up till the end.
Then I just went from the beginning to the end and expanded.
First the action and then the dialog.
I'm really happy because I actually got the first draft done in a week and a couple of days.
So I'm interested what do you guys do to write or make it easier.
I'm especially interested in people who are not foremost writers.
Thanks @CJ Walley. That was a nice read and I checked out PreWrite looks interesting.

It is right @Rutger Oosterhoff. I like working with teams because it makes everything a lot better in the end. More ideas and more stuff gets done well.
@Douglas Glenn Clark that's really interesting. Myself I kind of go between analog and digital all the time. I do stuff digitally then at one time I make notes and of course lose them and then make them digitally again.
@Jim Boston well I had the story in my head so I just wrote the outline with scenes and a short description and then started expanding.
It's interesting because I get to a point in a couple of scenes where I get stuck a little but by doing this I can move on to the next scene and still get some work done. Where when I was writing from start to finish I would get stuck and that's it.
So this way at least I get more done before having to figure out all the stuff.

And by "in the process" I mean I am literally learning the mechanics of how to write a screenplay. That said, I am approaching it pretty much as you have lined out. It lets me flesh out my story while I figure out how to make it a movie.

When I finish this one I'll go back and try the same way.
Good luck with your screenplay.

Welcome Dawn! I'm right there with you. I'm not retired but I am many years into my professional career that is not in the entertainment industry and I am moonlighting to become an author/screenwriter by trade and identity. I'd love to network with you.
Great decision to enter screenwriting. The world needs great films.

Expand postHi all,
I am an aspiring writer/screenwriter attempting to pull off a Second Act, late-in-life change of career. As such, I suffer from Stage IV Imposter Syndrome. I don't think I really belong here. I know nothing of Hollywood and how it works. I haven't sold a script or a manuscript or even won a short story contest. I am middle aged and worked my way up to the middle in an unrelated career. Nope, I'm SURE I don't belong here.
The thing is, I want to. For years I have low-key been preparing for this. I don't have youth but I've got ideas and plans and courage, and - I'm told - talent. I want to see if that dog hunts before the end. I HAVE to see. I HAVE to at least try. Improbable and impossible are two different words.
There's a line from the movie Legally Blonde that blew me away when I first saw it: Elle, the protagonist, decides to quit Harvard Law because she felt out of place. She says something akin to "I need to stop trying to be something I'm not." Her male love interest responds, "What if you're trying to be something that you are." So there it is. And here I am. Pleased to meet you.

I've got Final Draft and some books on the shelf to learn how to write those screenplays. And after the book and the movies are written, what am I going to do with them? No clue. That's why I'm here.
Robert, I'll be there with bells on. And some tissue.
