Two weeks ago I pitched to an amazing writer/executive producer, wrote three episodes of GOT and an Oscar nominated movie. She told me my story tonally ... not funny... used MOONLIGHT as a comp so I was thinking this topic--comedy--not so relevant for me right now but I think this is extremely helpful in some essential understandings that are relevant across all genres.

Hollie Michelle Harper - the "K" sound makes the statement funnier in dialogue. If you are torn between two synonyms, chose the one with the "K" sound. Not stone, but blocK. Not head, but Cabeza. Not hit, but knocK.
This is one of the best screenwriting webinars I've attended, and it's not ended yet. So much invaluable knowledge is being shared and Vijal is such a great presenter.
My favorite "episodic show" joke -- The Simpsons' "real Principal Skinner" episode, where at the end (after Springfield collectively renounces the Earth-shattering revelation that "Principal Skinner" isn't who he says he is), someone notes that they will never speak of this again.

A good example of a character evolving and then devolving is Nate on TED LASSO - SPOILERS getting built up to become a coach in Season 1 and then betraying (and graying) the team in Season 2

Are cold opens still necessary for half hour dramedies? Also, when there's a show like "Harlem" or "Insecure" that have four friends but are written as half hour dramedies, is it important to build B & C stories about all of the friends in the the pilot. What is an effective way to do so?

My favorite parts of Vijal Patel's workshop were the importance of clear characters and characters' dynamics, the fact that characters are always funny when they themselves are the cause of their own suffering, the exercise of wondering how characters would react in any situations, pairing opposites, the formula examples of Gilligan Island and Blackish, and the rule of three.
I'm really late watching but just to say this was awesome!! I learned so much, thank you so much Amanda Toney and Vijal. It was so informative!
